1. Can I use Proloquo2Go on multiple devices?
As Proloquo2Go is an app sold on the iTunes App Store, we follow Apple's rules:
For personal use, apps can be installed on all the devices an end user owns. On the App Store in iTunes, apps will be tied to the iTunes account used to purchase them. If you own multiple devices (e.g. an iPad, iPhone, iPod touch and/or an Apple Watch), you can sync all the devices to a computer with the app and use it on all your devices.
For professional and academic use, if multiple users are using a single device, you must buy one license per device. If a single user uses one or more devices, you must buy one license per user.
2. Do you offer a trial or lite version of Proloquo2Go?
Unfortunately, no. There are several reasons why we are unable to offer a trial or "lite" version of Proloquo2Go. Here are the most important ones:
Time limited or demo versions are not currently allowed on the App Store. For example, we are not allowed to have a button that puts up the message "sorry, get the full version for this feature". Apps are required to be fully functional.
For Proloquo2Go we are licensing symbols, Text to Speech voices and grammatical technology from three different companies. A lite version could therefore never be free, as those technologies need to be paid for. If the lite version is not free, customers would expect to be able to upgrade from the lite version to the full version. The App Store does not provide a mechanism for that. For example, if people paid $30 for a lite version, they would be angry that they would need to pay full price and not the price difference to get the full version.
It is hard to determine what features should be removed to create a lite version and still make it a good tool to evaluate Proloquo2Go. Which features are most important varies from person to person.
3. How do I update to a new version of Proloquo2Go?
Before updating, we strongly recommend that you save a vocabulary backup and store it somewhere safe on your computer or in your Dropbox.
To update Proloquo2Go, you have two options. You can either update on the device itself or download the update on iTunes on your computer, then sync the device. It is generally fastest and easiest to update on the device.
To update Proloquo2Go on your iOS device:
a. Make sure that you are logged into the same Apple ID that you used to purchase Proloquo2Go. If you are not sure, you can check in the Purchased section of the App Store app (located under Updates on the iPhone and iPod touch).
b. Go to the Updates section of the App Store app.
c. Scroll to Proloquo2Go and tap Update. You can also tap Update All at the top of the screen, to update every app that has updates available. You may be asked to enter your Apple ID and password at this stage.
d. The device will now begin downloading the update. Depending on the speed of your internet connection, this may take several minutes.
e. When the download finishes successfully, Proloquo2Go will move down toward the bottom of the Updates section. From here, you can open Proloquo2Go by tapping Open next to it.
4. What are the main differences between Proloquo2Go 3 and Proloquo2Go 4?
Proloquo2Go 4.0 adds many new features and enhancements. In general, Proloquo2Go 4 provides much better support for language development and growth of communication skills.
Proloquo2Go 3 offered two vocabularies: Basic Communication and Core Words. It was however difficult to choose between the two vocabularies. Users often became stuck in Basic Communication when they were ready for Core Word because Core Word looked too complex. The difference between Basic Communication and Core Word was simply too big. Additionally, if you wanted to progress from Basic Communication to Core Word, you needed to create a new user and re-customize it - either by adding new buttons or by copying and pasting your customized buttons from the old vocabulary to the new one. Of course this is very time-consuming, which may lead to postponing the transition to a higher vocabulary level and in the end limiting the user and delaying growth of language skills.
Proloquo2Go 4's research-based Crescendo vocabulary offers three levels: Basic Communication, Intermediate Core and Advanced Core. To make sure the user's language skills grow and the user doesn't become stuck at a specific vocabulary level, you can quickly switch between levels within the same vocabulary. You can do the same for individual pages, enabling you to customize each folder to the user's abilities. Aside from making sure the user expands skills, it also saves the person who customizes the vocabulary lots of time!
Aside from the research-based vocabularies that support language development, Proloquo2Go 4 also includes templates that keep core words on a consistent place throughout the vocabulary. This takes advantage of one of the ways we learn how to do things - motor planning. We have used these templates for existing folders, but you can also use these (activity) templates when creating new ones.
Another feature that supports language development, are the 23 pre-designed grid sizes. You can now easily pick the grid size that matches the user's skills, and migrate to another grid size as the user's skills grow.
